AutoTrain
AutoTrain aims to provide online training materials to the UK's automotive supply chain and other enginnering firms. The project is supported by EuroMotor and is based in the University of Birmingham's School of Computer Science.
EuroMotor
EuroMotor is a network and partnership of European car manufacturers, suppliers and universities, based at the University of Birmingham. It was formed in 1990 to improve the knowledge base of the European motor industry through high-level technical collaborative training. It has developed to include the modern developments in organisations including lean manufacture and simultaneous engineering. It is now directed towards expanding its activity to more closely follow the needs of the supply industry through the development of a European network.
The EuroMotor project is supported by the European Union's Leonardo da Vinci Fund for vocational training and the European Social Fund
University of Birmingham
The University of Birmingham is one of world's top 100 universities and amongst the United Kingdom's foremost research-led institutions. Its internationally excellent research influences the modern world and enriches the quality of teaching, bringing knowledge from the frontiers of discovery direct to the lecture theatre in a dynamic community of students and academic and professional staff. The University supports the EuroMotor project as part of its Research and Enterprise Services, which interface with the industrial community to ensure that knowledge is disseminated for the benefit of the economy and the nation.

European Social Fund
The ESF is one of four Structural Funds designed to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union. It's main purpose in the UK is to support the annual Employment Action Plan, which sets out how UK policies and initiatives take account of the Employment Guidelines established within the European Employment Strategy.
The European Social Fund aims to:
- help unemployed and inactive people enter work,
- provide opportunities for people at a disadvantage in the labour
market, - promote lifelong learning,
- develop the skills of employed people, and,
- improve women's participation in the labour market
The ESF provides funds for programmes of activity that support these objectives, amongst which have been several learning and development programmes carried out by EuroMotor as part of its AutoTrain project.
